"Questioned in the Commons last week about the haste with which the Home Office intends to merge the 43 county constabularies in England and Wales into a dozen regional super forces, Tony Blair agreed that there were worries about the exercise. He said: 'That is precisely why we must consult fully on it, which we will, and ensure that we get the right proposals for policing.'"
