"Despite the obvious need to tackle the roots of Scotland's culture of violent criminality, the proposal set out by officers in the Violence Reduction Unit was met with derision by leading psychologists. Dr Robin Campbell, a lecturer in developmental psychology at Stirling University, said: 'I cannot believe there is a particle of evidence supporting this. I find the entire concept ludicrous. Would the police not be better getting out on to the streets and catching criminals, rather than indulging themselves in this absurd piece of public health policy? "
