"The Czech Republic granted 227 visas to asylum seekers in 2005, more than it ever has before, hinting at a gradual defrosting of longstanding resistance to the integration of foreigners. According to Interior Ministry statistics, while 60 percent more asylum visas were issued in 2005, the number of applicants dropped from 5,459 in 2004 to 3,876 last year - a drop the ministry ascribes to a European Union law that limits individual refugees to apply for asylum in only one country. Last year was the Czech Republic's first full year as an EU member."
