"The government has revealed that it is looking at creating a new offence which would specifically deal with thugs who target 999 workers. Teachers, nurses, bus drivers and other public workers are also to be given protection.
The proposed legislation would mean anyone who attacks emergency crews or public workers would be dealt with under the new offence - and would face stiffer punishment as a result of tougher sentencing guidelines."
