"Repatriation of about 6,000 Afghan refugees from this north-east city has become a difficult as 4,000 have acquired national identity cards or passports of Pakistan and the rest of them are not ready to relocate back home. [..] Furthermore, Afghan children who had migrated to Pakistan during the Soviet war now have Pakistani identity cards and passports. “They are also well-versed in Urdu and Punjabi and find no difficulty while posing them as Pakistanis. Some 4,000 Afghans residing in Rawalpindi have Pakistani ID cards and passports as also pointed out by the city nazim,” he said.
