"AUSTRALIAN police have intensified their investigation of the alleged terrorism activities of fugitive Saleh Jamal on the eve of his forced return to Australia. NSW police will travel to Lebanon this week to escort Jamal back to Sydney after Lebanese authorities signed an order agreeing to his extradition. If police decide to lay terrorism charges against him they must first consult the Lebanese authorities who signed off on the extradition. Under Lebanese law, the extradition is only valid if the person is charged for the offences listed on the warrant. Additional charges can only be laid if the Lebanese authorities agree to a fresh application. NSW Director of Public Prosecutions Nicholas Cowdery said: "If Mr Jamal returns to NSW I am prepared to prosecute him on matters that remain outstanding -- any further information must await his return."
