"CHEMICAL castration is the only proven way to stop serial pedophiles from striking again, an expert says. Forensic psychiatrist Jeremy O'Dea said that he had prescribed drugs to cut testosterone production for about 40 offenders in the past 15 years and none were charged with further offences. But others he had treated without the chemicals had offended again. Dr O'Dea said those who offended in their families had a very low rate of re-offending and could be treated psychologically. "But people who offend against children outside the family usually have a higher risk of re-offending, from 20 per cent to more than 50 per cent," he said."
