"The Larkhall blast led to calls for a corporate killing offenceNew legislation published by the Home Office will allow companies in Scotland to be prosecuted for deaths caused by their negligence. The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Bill will apply across the whole of the UK. The Scottish Executive says the laws will apply in Scotland since they cover reserved areas of health and safety. But trade unions argue it should be a Scottish criminal justice issue and believe the bill leaves loopholes. It creates a new offence of corporate manslaughter in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and of corporate homicide in Scotland."
