"It is seen lately that more and more Macedonians are applying for Bulgarian passports, because of the forthcoming accession of Bulgaria to the EU. So far 20,000 Macedonians, including the country’s former Prime Minister Ljupco Georgievski and his spouse have received Bulgarian Ids. According to information of Bulgarian authorities, another 20,000 Macedonians have filed their applications for such documents. In order to receive Bulgarian citizenship Macedonians have to prove their Bulgarian origin. Having in mind the joint historical past between Bulgaria and Macedonia, acquiring such documents is not a problem. "
