"AN unholy alliance over privacy is emerging as Victorian Liberals launch Access Card No Way, a campaign to oppose the introduction of the federal Government's health and welfare services card. Victorian party member Tim Warner said a number of "classical liberals" joined the fight against the Australia Card in 1987 and will rally again to defeat this "new attempt to foist an identity card" on the public. "Many people say that it's too late, that data mining and other things have stripped us of our privacy, so while they are violently opposed to the card they think that not having the card is the difference between having a figleaf and not having a figleaf," Mr Warner said. "I'm against the whole concept of national ID cards, but I'm also against this proposal because it totally reverses the position of the citizen versus the state. "
