"The physical tests were made easier in 2003. A senior Leicestershire police officer has criticised the level of fitness that recruits need to achieve to join the police. Deputy Chief Constable David Lindley said physical tests for applicants had become worryingly easy. According to Home Office figures, 99% of male and 76% of female applicants pass the fitness tests. The Association of Chief Police Officers said tests had been changed to attract people from wider backgrounds."
