"The cabinet on Friday gave a six month period for phone companies to be able to identify the owners of prepaid phone cards in Spain. Communications companies will now be obliged to keep all phone and internet records for a year. This will be data on the origin and destination of the call, and its duration. It’s estimated that there are now 20 million prepaid phone cards in Spain, and we can now expect to see a large advertising campaign, the cost of which falls to the phone operators.Similar measures have been introduced in Switzerland successfully. Now people have to give their identity card number when they purchase a prepaid phonecard." [Brief]
