"AS HEAD of a national counterextremist organisation Superintendent Steve Pearl's job is to put an end to the illegal activities of animal rights activists. And although Supt Pearl believes the activists are here to stay he is pleased to have put half of the most persistent offenders out of commission - either behind bars or subject to legal restraints. Supt Pearl was invited to set up the National Extremism Tactical Co-ordination Unit (Nectu) in 2004 because of his experience of dealing with animal rights activities in Cambridgeshire."
