"While the DeKalb County Police Office is shelving its Tasers, the increasingly controversial stun guns will remain in use by Sheriff's Office employees at the county jail. DeKalb CEO cited the manufacturer's warning that the device can lead to death. DeKalb Sheriff, who runs the jail, did not follow suit. 'While I respect the Police Department's position, it's such a different environment in the jail than when you're out there in the street,' he said. 'Inmates here know that we don't carry weapons and that if they want to create a violent confrontation, the possibility of a Taser being used against them is possible,' he said. 'So that has reduced the number of violent confrontations between my detention officers and inmates.'"
