"GIVING thieves longer jail sentences would dramatically reduce the crime rate, says new research that has found the average burglar commits 152 robberies in four years. The study by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics found increasing the average prison sentence for burglary from one to two years could prevent up to 10,000 burglaries each year in NSW, a reduction of 8percentage points. "
