"An e-passport technology which can be read in just two seconds has been demonstrated by contactless technology specialist Atmel. Atmel said an e-passport implementation based on its AT90SC12872RCFT secure microcontroller has achieved between one to two seconds recognition cycle in an e-passport reader test. According to the supplier this can be 10 times as fast as existing read technology. “We are really excited about the proven superior performance of this chip. This is the ideal solution not only for e-passports but also for any national ID or driver license applications,” said John Bryant Atmel’s v-p of marketing. "
