"National security will be under threat unless more Muslims are recruited into the police and security forces, according to the Commission for Racial Equality chairman Trevor Phillips.But current race legislation - which prohibits 'positive discrimination' - needs to be changed if the number of Muslim officers required is to be met. "We cannot take it for granted that British Muslims will put up with being searched, investigated and dragged out of their homes for ever. So we need to ask if we have the capacity within our current security and police force to respond to the threat of terrorism without further inflaming community relations by unnecessary tactical blunders?"
