"The controversial brain fingerprinting technique claims to pinpoint a criminal's guilty thoughts and has already been used in some criminal cases in the United States. The method has been tested by the FBI and is 'producing results of 100 per cent accuracy'. Critics of the method have, however, branded it Orwellian and say it threatens freedom of thought. The technique measures the brain's electrical activity in response to a suspect being shown images relating to a crime and is said to be more accurate than lie detector tests because it measures an electrical signal that occurs 300 milliseconds after the stimulus, too soon for the suspect to affect the output. Supporters of the technique say it heralds a new era in security and should be used to expose the guilty knowledge carried by would-be terrorists." [Snippet]
