"Identity cards would help protect the UK from terrorist attack, the judge leading France's fight against al Qaida said today. Jean-Louis Bruguiere backed the security measure as he warned that the Iraq war had seriously increased the threat posed to Europe.
M Bruguiere said compulsory ID cards had proved "very important" in his country's bid to thwart Madrid-style bombings."
