Communities that Care
“The Safer London Youth Survey 2004 was the first stage in a three-phase programme to develop ‘grass roots’ community prevention programmes in some of London’s most challenged neighbourhoods. For the first time, CtC’s tried-and-tested Youth Survey questionnaire was expanded to include a series of questions on young people’s exposure to guns, knives and other weapons and to explore the contentious issue of ‘gang’ membership. In an exercise funded by Government Office for London and managed by the Metropolitan Police Service, CtC surveyed more than 11,000 young people living in Inner London. Their responses will inform a series of neighbourhood initiatives designed to improve outcomes for children and young people and to reduce levels of youth crime, anti-social behaviour, violence, drugs & substance misuse, educational under-achievement and unwanted teenage pregnancy."
