"AN ALL-WALES police force could be set up in less than 18 months' time, Home Secretary Charles Clarke said last night.
Three of the four Welsh chief constables told a parliamentary inquiry yesterday they backed the plan, and Mr Clarke told the Western Mail that if there was a consensus the merger would get the go-ahead by April 2007. He also dismissed reports that the merger could cost 50m, and rejected calls for the issue to be decided by the Assembly. 'This is a UK Government decision, full stop,' he said."
