"Police in Britain are dropping what they have described as 'unrealistic' targets for recruiting members of ethnic minorities. Currently, those minorities make up about 7 percent of the British population, but only 3.5 percent of serving police officers. A spokesman for the Association of Chief Police Officers said the goal was "unrealistic" and was being abandoned. Peter Fahy said many young men and women from ethnic minorities still regard police officers as bigoted, and this prevents them from joining the force."
