In an interview with the Mirror on Friday, Charles Clarke said the government has 'a long way to go on violent crime'. His pledge of action not words will be seen as a sideswipe at his predecessor, David Blunkett. 'I don't believe it is enough to make a stirring speech about how terrible things are, you have to change the state of affairs. And that is what I am determined to do,' Clarke said."
