"A recent research, carried out by the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), showed that the number of Moroccans who are granted the Dutch nationality but still retain their original one reached 125,000. The research showed that these Moroccans are among the 977,000 who have been naturalized. They trail Turks who top the list with 252,000 people.
Moroccans and Turks accuse the Dutch Minister of Immigration and Integration of targeting them deliberately. She tried to prevent them from holding two nationalities, while overlooking those from other nationalities.
Those who oppose the plans say that people are eager to retain their original nationalities because “they see them sacred like religion, language and traditions.”
The Minister explained during her last visit to Morocco that she could understand the Moroccan first and second generation's clinging to their nationalities. But the third generation is subject to the current social laws of Holland, which apply to Dutch employees as well. She added that if they cling to their original nationality they run the risk of being denied their social security rights."
