"A CRUCIAL piece of evidence discovered last week allowed police to swoop on three Melbourne men accused of involvement in an alleged terror cell. Police sources say the men had been under surveillance for at least four months, but it was only late last week that the new evidence emerged that prompted authorities to lay charges against the three.
Bassam Raad, Majed Raad and Shoue Hammoud were arrested and charged on Friday with being members of a terrorist organisation and intentionally funding a terrorist group. Two of the men face additional charges of supporting a terrorist organisation. Australian Federal Police assistant commissioner for counter-terrorism Frank Prendergast said the arrests had thwarted a 'significant threat' and that the men were involved in an unnamed group with 'links to overseas organisations'.
