"Teen Court consists of high school student volunteers who act as attorneys, jurors and bailiffs while deciding consequences for their peers. Juvenile defendants are typically first-time offenders charged with misdemeanors. By the time they arrive in Teen Court they have already admitted guilt and are ready to receive their sentence. Operating under the belief that if peer pressure can be used to exert a negative influence on youth, it can likewise be used as a positive force, in Teen Court a jury of high school students determines the sentence."
