Kuenselonline - New passports to be issued in February:
"The new machine-readable passport with enhanced security features and a new look will be ready to be issued by mid February, according to foreign ministry officials. The issue of the new passports, which was scheduled for May last year, was delayed for several reasons. The project coordinator, Tshewang C Dorji, said that although there was no specific timeframe, detailed study had to be carried out on the feasibility of the available technology and the cost implications. Meanwhile, the ministry is waiting for the new booklets to arrive from Germany early next month. According to the project coordinator, successful trial runs had been carried out with dummy pages swapped onto the machines.
