"RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) has been described as the oldest new technology.
The term refers to a group of technologies that come together to enable communication via radio wave. RFID is very exciting as it can mean we know the status of real time products or environments in real time. The technology has been around for donkey’s years, its value in identifying friendly aircraft in war zones during the Second World War was quickly realised by the British Air force. The following forty years saw RF deployed mainly in security applications, building access, road tolls and auto-key fobs. RFID is an infrastructure technology, which will have an impact on every business process. However RFID is still a new technology, and thus we are waiting to see where it will lead in many applications as other emerging technologies are mated with RFID." [Free sign up may be required]
