"British Embassy officials say a huge rise in the number of locally-issued UK passports is due to a doubling of the number of Britons living here. Officials said the number of Britons in the city has rocketed from 50,000 to 100,000 over the past four years. The figures were released after a British lawmaker voiced fears that the increase stemmed from large numbers of people gaining British nationality. Douglas Carswell said he was concerned it has become too easy to become a British citizen and thereby gain the right to live in the UK."
